A Night to Remember – 133rd Annual Gridiron Club Dinner

Late Saturday night, as I was getting ready to post my most recent piece on “Fake News”, President Trump was busy attending a dinner with the exact news outlets I was writing about.

He was attending The 133rd Annual Gridiron Club Dinner that brings the best media together for a night of laughter and fun.

The Gridiron Club Dinner is designed to be light hearted and humorous for all who attend. In my opinion, one of the most important reasons for the dinner is that it gives the President and the media the opportunity to take a step back. It gives them a chance to take a break from the stresses of the common day to poke fun at each other.

And, for once, President Trump was able to successfully open up and make people laugh. He was actually able to make fun of himself. Surprising, right?

This is exactly what I wanted to see from the President. After turning down multiple appearances at other dinners like this, he finally took the time to show the people that he does like to have some fun, sometimes.

I don’t want to go too deep into the detail of the night, but I did want to include a few of his one liners for you and for all of us to remember when he goes back to being, well, Trump.

Days after President Trump’s Son-in-law Jared Kushner had his Top-Secret security clearance removed, the President poked fun. He said, “We were late tonight because Jared couldn’t get through security”.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions decided to make an appearance at the dinner even though he has suffered through attacks from President Trump over the past couple of weeks for recusing himself from the Russia Investigation. Trump joked that he had offered Sessions a ride to the dinner, but he had “recused himself”.

Closing out the dinner, Trump joked that he had to go because he had to wake up the next morning to catch “Fox and Friends”. As he was leaving, he said, “This might be the most fun since watching your faces on election night.”
